A survey of the nation’s singletons has revealed the average non-attached Brit has at least six bad dates a year on average – with one being classed a complete car-crash. The research also revealed some of the most common and cringe-inducing dating fails – which include slipping on dance floors, getting food stuck in teeth and choking on drinks.

Also on the list of common disasters were spilling drinks over potential partners and walking into lamp posts and for women, mistakenly tucking skirts into underwear after a visit to the loo. A staggering one in 20 Brits had even ended up in accident and emergency after hurting themselves while out on a date.

According to the survey, singletons today feel the weight of expectation on their shoulders, with 65 per cent of those polled saying they felt under pressure from family and friends to find ‘the one’.
